Your Job Interview Without Explaining Job Experience

Your Job Interview Without Explaining Job ExperienceWhen applying for jobs, employers usually ask for your resume and without explanation they prefer to get back to you in one call. However, some questions that you might want to include in your resume are: What do you have to offer the company? How have you been training or teaching in the past?Writing a resume is an art. You need to be able to answer their question. Most people forget that when they contact the employer the main goal is to keep them interested in the position. Therefore, the answers to questions like these are your ticket. Before you know it, the interview may have come to an end and the interviewer asks a question that has not been answered. You may think to yourself, 'I forgot to tell him I'm a master of all I know.' Yes, it happens all the time, but if you don't keep track of what your employer needs to know, he or she will lose interest. The secret to keeping the interviewer interested is to get him or her to reme mber you as a career planning tool. Write a resume that will help them come up with an actual job opening. This is much easier said than done. So, the trick is to give them a little bit of information about your qualifications.Remember that the resume is a sales tool. It will look more professional if you have the basics explained rather than trying to cover every aspect of your life. Use a combination of key phrases that bring to mind good positions, pay range, educational background, and experience in the industry. You can also get a free resume writing service to write a resume for you. Such services are more expensive, but they do provide professional results. Some even offer resume drafting services. One thing you need to remember when writing a resume without explaining job experience is that it is a professional tool and should only be used when you have no other choice. There are many ways to make yourself look unprofessional and nothing better than a resume to show the employ er that you have done your homework.Offering a copy of your work samples, such as projects, resumes, etc. is another way to impress your employer. Although not an official resume, it gives the employer something to look at and makes you look serious and prepared for the job.

A Fork in the Road

A Fork in the Road A Fork in the Road Before I start, I might want to explain something. I'm a lesser in school. I'm more than mostly got done with my undergrad vocation. I have put time in understudy gatherings, had important work understanding, and created associations inside my proposed field of work. That being stated, it might come as an unexpected that I have as of late been thinking about exchanging majors and seeking after a totally extraordinary profession way. The other week, I was reading for a natural science test, and in my depleted and disappointed state, I googled, For what reason am I pre-prescription? (Looking back, this is in reality truly diverting). The principal result that sprung up was a blog entry from an understudy that was in precisely the same circumstance as me â€" a pre-medications understudy who felt no energy in his scholarly undertakings, who set forth perpetual and frequently worthless endeavors towards reading for tests, and who continually scrutinized his longing to be pre-prescription. This truly made me think. What were my inspirations in any case for picking the pre-medications way? Am I doing this for me? When I graduate, will I think back on my time at Northwestern with lament? We all enter school in light of one objective: to get a degree and get a new line of work. It appears to be so straightforward on a superficial level. We have it solidified in our brains from the second we enter school as youngsters that life will follow a distinctly straight way through secondary school, school, work, and retirement. With this edge of thought, it's difficult to take advantage of your very own interests and seek after them in school on the grounds that the dread of veering off from this way and not knowing precisely where you're going to wind up leaves you speechless. It alarms you into congruity, constraining you to surrender to the weight put upon you by companions, family, and society. Individuals are continually revealing to me that it shows signs of improvement, that in spite of the fact that I may discover no enthusiasm for science or science now, every one of my endeavors will prove to be fruitful later and I will be remunerated liberally. Be that as it may, remunerated with what? What, genuinely, is an abundant award for squandering long periods of your life sitting tight for something that may never work out as intended? It unquestionably isn't cash. Is anything but a major house, or a decent vehicle. Those things vanish. They get old and blur away, similarly as we do. In any case, laments remain with us for the duration of our lives, continually crawling into our contemplations like a parasite. Being proactive and killing the danger of disappointment before it gets an opportunity to emerge is the main arrangement. Try not to be that individual that sits at your work area quite a while from now and marvels where your life has gone. I realize I positively woul d prefer not to capitulate to that destiny. The motivation behind this piece isn't to set up a pity party for myself, nor is it to offer strong exhortation to those of you who are battling with your life way, in light of the fact that as should be obvious, I haven't actually made sense of that myself. I do, be that as it may, need you to realize that there are individuals out there like me, similar to the understudy in the blog entry I read, who have gone to the acknowledgment late in their profession that their decision of study probably won't be intended for them, and that it is never past the point where it is possible to drop everything and pursue something new. Recollect that life isn't pre-developed. On the off chance that you feel despondent or unsatisfied, it is dependent upon you to discover the answer for the issue. Quit pondering what's to come. For one minute, consider how your life would be on the off chance that you sought after something you were energetic about. Try not to consider what sorts of occupations you could get, or how much cash you could make. Life may not be direct, yet it generally standardizes. Regardless of the amount you go astray from the way, regardless of what number of high or depressed spots you may understanding, everything will in every case even out at long last. Recall that.

Job Resignation Stunts - Are They Worth The Risk

Job Resignation Stunts - Are They Worth The Risk Five years ago, the only real way to quit your job was to jump on Word* (*note: other word processors are available!), type out a simple resignation letter and hand it to your boss away from the prying eyes and ears of your colleagues. Subtlety and privacy was the name of the game and the idea that your letter could be made public was the stuff of nightmares. Fast forward to 2014 and thats all changed. These days, quitting your job in a very public and alternative way definitely seems to be name of the game and in fact, the more publicity and attention the employee gets, the more successful theyre deemed to be. Granted, not everyone chooses to quit their job in such a dramatic and attention-seeking way, but were definitely starting to see this more and more and Ive got a feeling its only set to continue. Not sure what Im talking about? Well, Ive got plenty of examples for you. First up there was the guy who quit his job at Stansted Airport via the medium of cake. Yep, you read that right cake. Now, this ones not actually as random as it seems. You see, Chris Holmes was actually quitting his job at the airport to concentrate on his cake-baking business and family so it does make sense. Aside from the fact the letter was printed on a piece of food, the best thing about this example is that the letter was actually pretty sweet and he rather cheekily plugged his new cake-baking business nice! Then there was the girl who quit her job And who could forget the Goldman Sachs Executive Director who quit his job in 2012 Other famous examples of employees quitting their job in style include a guy who quit his job at a hotel with the help of a brass band  and a flight attendant who quit his job with an airline OK, so these examples do sound pretty funny and theyve definitely caught the worlds attention but you do have to question whether theyre actually worth it. Yes, everyone in the examples above received their 15 minutes of fame but what effect did it have on their career in the long-term? For the dancing girl and the cake-maker, Im sure theyve benefited but what about the flight attendant? Im pretty sure no airline would be willing to take him on now The thing is; once someone pulls a stunt like this once, theres always a chance theyll do it again and that always has to be in the back of a potential employers mind. OK, so in the case of Stansted Airport, they didnt necessarily get bad publicity but in the case of the others, they definitely did and what brand would want to take the risk? Just like job-hunting stunts, when it comes to the question of whether job resignation stunts are worth it, it all comes down to personal circumstances and what you want to get out of it. If you just want to have your 15 minutes of fame and have some kind of career back-up plan in place, then thats fine but if not, Id really urge you to think twice. It might seem like a good idea now but what about in 5 years, 10 years and even 20 years time? Thanks to the internet, theres a real possibility it could come back to haunt you and do you still want to be defending your decision 20 years into your career? Definitely something to consider As ever, Im keen to hear your thoughts on this one. Have you ever been tempted

Birdsill Holly Jr

Birdsill Holly Jr Birdsill Holly Jr Birdsill Holly, Jr. A great many people most likely dont realize who developed focal steam warming, however theyve positively felt the effect of that creative framework utilized all through the world. In the event that he were alive today, the man they ought to thank is Birdsill Holly, Jr. (1822 1894), a mechanical designer and water power innovator, who holds 150 licenses, a number second just to those held by Thomas Edison. The child of a specialist, Holly was conceived November 8, 1820, in Auburn, NY, and experienced childhood in and around Seneca Falls, a clamoring factory fueled modern town, that no uncertainty took care of the water siphon fixation he later went to gold. After Hollys father kicked the bucket at age 37, Holly dropped out of grade school, and at 10 years old apprenticed himself first to a bureau creator then an engineer around. He later filled in as director, at that point owner of a shop in Uniontown, PA. In spite of just a third grade training, Holly was a characteristic creator who immediately looked to become well known. In his twenties, he turned into an establishing accomplice at Silsby, Race Holly, and filled in as the visionary behind the organizations fruitful production of water driven apparatus and steam-fueled fire motors. What's more, it was at Silsby, which was situated on a five-section of land island in the Seneca River, that he developed the Silsby steam fire motor with its surprising (at that point) rotating motor and siphons. Silsby turned out its first steam fire motor in 1856, and afterward proceeded to hold the record for most steam fire motors worked by any U.S. firm. Birdsill Hollys compound siphon motor. In 1859, Holly was prepared to strike out on his own when he established Holly Manufacturing Company in Lockport, NY, where he planned and assembled an intricate passage framework that drew water from the Erie Canal to control his processing plant. Shooting a tremendous passage out of the hard Lockport dolomite on the north side of the trench, this passage, or pressure driven raceway, drew water from the channel over the locks. The water voyaged downhill through the passage to the Holly plant to turn a water wheel, or turbine, that conveyed near 3,000 hp to each bit of apparatus by means of an arrangement of pulleys and cowhide belts. This strategy Holly made for siphoning water (and fueling hardware) drew the consideration of designers around the world, including Thomas Edison, who came to Lockport to watch Hollys innovation. In any case, that was just the start: what Holly proceeded to do with all that waterpower was the large news. Drawing of fire hydrant patent by Birdsill Holly. With the plant fully operational, Holly set about figuring out how to both improve fire-assurance frameworks and all the more productively convey water to the general population. In 1863, utilizing Lockport as his demonstrating ground, he structured and constructed the Holly Fire Protection and Water System, which utilized water-turbine or steam-enginepowered siphons to drive water into the town water mains under a reliable tension and to fire hydrants around town. In 1869, the framework, which enhanced prior manifestations of the fire hydrant, at last earned Holly his first patent, number 94749, for an improved fire hydrant that looked a lot of like those found on each city square today. By the mid-1860s, a significant part of the U.S. furthermore, Europe had embraced Hollys innovation, except for one city that famously didn't: Chicago. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 consumed for three days, killed hundreds, and annihilated 3.3 miles of that city, Chicago authorities bought Holleys fire-insurance frameworks for the entirety of Chicago. In 1877, the fretful creator shaped the Holly Steam Combination Company, where lightning struck indeed. There he started chipping away at a steam-warming framework, which had at its inside one enormous focal plant that, through a system of gracefully and return mains, would send warmth to different encompassing structures at more prominent warm efficiencies than current strategies, which utilized segregated individual boilers to warm structures. As was frequently the situation, Holly experienced issues drawing in financial specialists. Undaunted, he built a little kettle in his home from which he ran a steam line 100 feet from his home to a property nearby. He at that point welcomed a crowd of people, including Edison, to watch the dispensing of the warmth produced. It worked effortlessly, and through the span of the following 10 years, Holly kept on improving the framework, piling on in excess of 150 new licenses when he was done. The outcome: focal steam heat spread in urban areas over the U.S., and Hollys firm, rearranged under the name American District Steam Heat Corporation, confronted an ever-developing interest. Prior as far as possible of the century, various locale warming organizations had shaped, primarily in huge urban areas. Hollys incorporated steam warming framework was imaginative and down to earth, said ASMEs past president Dr. Serge Gratch in the 1987 function in Lockport, NY, when Hollys System of Fire Protection and Water Supply and his District Heating Systems got a National Mechanical Engineering Heritage site assignment. Hollys life is prominent for the entirety of the imaginative thoughts he progressed over the underlying incredulity of both the general population and financial specialists. His one disappointment, nonetheless, was a fantasy that he would live to see another person understand: the high rise. Persuaded that the Niagara Falls territory would some time or another become a significant traveler goal, he proposed the development of a 700-ft-tall structure in the Niagara River on Goat Island as another draw for guests. Incapable to pull in financial specialists to understand his vision, he had a go at selling his arrangements in New York City, where the growing populace put forth a decent defense for working up instead of proceeding to work out. Be that as it may, he found no takers and in the end needed to concede rout. The high rises that started to manifest in New York before he kicked the bucket in 1894 of cardiovascular breakdown positively affirmed to himand the individuals who recollected his plansthat he, of course, had been on to something important. A little self promotion never hurt anyone

A little self promotion never hurt anyone I didnt plan on blogging twice today, but I cant pass this one up. Id like to share with you a write-up on JibberJobber from a CNET website, Webware.com. Rafe Needleman is the editor, and has a long history of writing about tech companies. Im honored that he spent time poking around JibberJobber and doing this write-up. Notice that the image on his post is a screen that he grabbed with his own data, so you can see that he actually played around with it! Go check out what Rafe has to say and then, if you have a digg account, please click here to digg it. Now, my comments on his post (you didnt think I would leave it at that, did you??): First, the tagline in the logo is cool web apps for everyone I know JibberJobber is cool, and Im really glad to see that it made it in this write-up because it really is, in my opinion, for everyone. Whether you are in your job search or not (and Rafe talks about this) it has applicability to you! Second, he says there are some worksheets to create your own personal 30 second pitch. Make that, pitches. This is critical because you may have a pitch for an interview with a big company that is different than the pitch for the small company. And then there are the pitches for the casual networking event, the bumped-into-you at the grocery store, the pitch for position x and a pitch for position y, etc. A pitch for your own business, your hobby, etc. You probably cant have too many pitches. Third, he says the user interface is downright plain and lacks a few buttons good thing this is web-based so that those additional buttons can just show up once we develop them! As far as being plain, we work hard to keep everything as simple as possible, and more importantly, uncluttered. I dont have any sponsors yet Id love to have some sponsors but I dread figuring out how to put their images up without detracting from the application. I want to make this a pleasant experience for you! Fourth, and this blew me away, he says In some ways, JibberJobber is a completely private version of LinkedIn What a compliment! I see it as a complementary toolset to LinkedIn and other social networking sites, but to even be compared with a powerhouse like LinkedIn is a great complement. Ill be grinning all night long, but I must give credit where its due (read: this is going to sound like Ive just received an Emmy or something skip this paragraph if you dont want to get cheesed-out). I have a very talented development team behind me, and there is no way that we could be where we are at with such a classy product without this outstanding talent. Id like to name them but, well, I cant yet Also, I have been honored to have been featured in many blog posts from veteran bloggers and newbies alike, and that has significantly contributed to where Im at. Equally important is the feedback that Ive received from users who have asked for simple changes to make it work a little better, or huge changes to add significant features. All of this has helped the product grow as it should. Last but not least, my investors and mentors have been steadfast and encouraging, and have played a significant role in helping me iron out the business. Its been a fun ride and, as usual, I have some cool news coming soon. Stay tuned! A little self promotion never hurt anyone I didnt plan on blogging twice today, but I cant pass this one up. Personal Branding Interview David L. Rogers - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Personal Branding Interview David L. Rogers - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Today, I spoke to David L. Rogers, who is the Executive Director of the Center on Global Brand Leadership at Columbia Business School, and author of The Network Is Your Customer: 5 Strategies to Thrive in a Digital Age. In this interview, David talks about how social networks change our relationship with brands, his five strategies that businesses can use to create value, and more. How do social networks change our relationships with brands? From our smartphones to our social networks we are all connected now by tools that allow us to create and interact with each other on a mass scale. This is changing our relationships not just with each other, but with organizations of all kinds. In the past, businesses relied on a broadcast model to influence customers: mass production, and mass marketing, projected at masses of aggregate consumers. To succeed today, businesses need a different model â€" a model of customer networks, which are engaged, interacting, and able to participate with, or challenge, your organization. What are your five strategies that any business can use to create new value? The focus of the book is primarily on customer behaviors, rather than technology. By understanding the core behaviors that drive customer networks, I identify five strategies that any business can use to create new value: ACCESS: be faster, be easier, be everywhere, be always on ENGAGE: become a source of valued content CUSTOMIZE: make your offering adaptable to your customers needs CONNECT: become a part of your customers conversations COLLABORATE: involve your customers at every stage of your enterprise In the book, I illustrate these strategies with more than 100 cases of successful digital strategies from every type and size of business â€" from B2B, consumer, and even nonprofit organizations. Do you believe in the process of co-creation with customers? What are the pros and cons to this strategy? Each of the books five strategies can be applied to a variety of business objectives, from driving sales, to enhancing innovation, reducing costs, gaining customer insight, or building breakthrough products and services. A COLLABORATE strategy focused on innovation is what is often called co-creation. I have found successful examples of this and other COLLABORATE strategies, from the 2008 Obama campaign to Apples App Store, using diverse platforms, from online competitions, to open APIs, to web platforms like eBay. The key to any COLLABORATE strategy is to pick the right platform and to be very clear about the motivations of your customer network â€" Why would they participate? Whats in it for them? What value do they gain? What really exists on the network? What should we know about the network? Customers lives are increasingly lived digitally. So businesses would be wise not to think of digital as a function to stick in a particular department of their organization. In our daily lives, the distinction between online vs. offline is increasingly blurred as we integrate mobile devices into our conferences, meetings, dinner conversations, and TV watching. My son doesnt understand the distinction between a computer and the Internet, because he never experienced the former without the latter. I suspect his children will not fully grasp our distinction between online and offline. What inspired you to write this book? I was inspired by all the organizations I had met, taught, or advised that were creating really innovative new strategies, marketing, and business models for customer networks. These werent just web companies like Google or Facebook, but car companies, hospitals, retail stores, fashion brands, B2B services, and education start-ups. Writing the book offered an exciting opportunity to research hundreds of such cases and think deeply about the underlying patterns, and to offer some practical advice for anyone grappling with business strategy in our digital age. David L. Rogers is a widely-recognized leader on brands and digital strategy, known for his unique insights into customer networks. He is the author of The Network Is Your Customer: 5 Strategies to Thrive in a Digital Age published in 2011 by Yale University Press. He is the co-author, with Bernd Schmitt, of Theres No Business Thats Not Show Business: Marketing in an Experience Culture and co-editor of The Handbook on Brand and Experience Management. David tweets at twitter.com/david_rogers and blogs at www.davidrogers.biz. He has appeared on CNN, CNBC, Marketplace, and Reuters. David teaches on brands, marketing, and digital strategy at Columbia Business School, where he is the Executive Director of the Center on Global Brand Leadership, the leading global forum on branding issues for researchers and executives.

Tips for Saving Time while Building Your Personal Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Tips for Saving Time while Building Your Personal Brand - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Are you one of the many who use lack of time as a reason to put-off building a personal brand by writing provocative thought leadership articles, books, starting a podcast, frequently updating your blog, or submitting guest posts on other blogs? If you dont have the time now, when will you have the time? Lack of time is an unfortunate reality for most of us; today, everyone is stretched then by family demands, financial pressures, job expectations, and an always connected Internet/cell phone world. Nevertheless, each year, new subject area experts appear as competitors in every area. Whats their secret? Since everyone shares 24-hour days, and no amount of wishful thinking is likely to reduce your workload, there are mainly just 2 things you can do to find the time to build your personal brand: Commitment. Commitment means making your personal brand a priority in your life, not just something you do when you finish your real job. Commitment involves recognizing the importance of creating a personal brand, making difficult choices, and cultivating the habits needed to create the content you need to establish a a compelling personal brand in your field. Efficiency. After making the commitment to build your personal brand, you have to cultivate the habits of efficiency. Efficiency involves multiplying your time by accomplishing in 30-minutes a day what would normally take you 60 or 90 minutes a day. Efficiency involves writing strategically, so your words and key ideas can be leveraged as broadly as possible. The following are some ideas learned from authors and subject area experts whom Ive interviewed during the past 18 months. 7 time-saving personal branding tips Time limits. Try writing your blog posts in 30-minutes, or less. Stress builds, and productivity often gets clogged, when you take a writing task too seriously. The solution is to commit to writing your blog posts in 30-minutes. Words are far more likely to flow when you spend your time writing, rather than over-thinking the topic before you begin writing. Writing quickly also gives you more time to review and self-edit your post before sharing it with the Internet. Technology. One recently self-published author I interviewed purchased an inexpensive, hand-held digital recorder and dictates blog posts and sections of chapters while driving to client meetings or stopped at traffic lights. When he gets back, he plugs the digital recorder into his computer, and his voice recognition software program transcribes his dictation and prepares the first draft. Expanding topics. Although the practice is by no means universal, more and more individuals are building their personal brands and leveraging their writing by expanding blog posts into articles, ebooks, and chapters of brand-building books. Condensing topics. The same idea works in reverse; blog posts can be condensed to their essence and reused as tip sheets and sidebars in articles and books. Reformatting. Content ideas should transcend media; ideas that first appear as blog posts can be addressed in podcasts and YouTube videos. Likewise, after creating a podcast, you might be able to convert the topic into 2 or 3 separate blog posts addressing aspects of the podcast. Each media has its own followers. More important, each time you re-address a topic, youre likely to come up with new ideas. Live connections. One of the easiest ways to develop new content is to present an on-going series of free interviews and teleseminars which are recorded and transcribed.   Live events create deadlines that overcome procrastination and prompt action. Your enthusiasm builds, and your voice changes, when youre projecting to a live audience, and the ideas flow as they tend to during conversations. Crowd-sourcing. Many profitable personal brands have been based on tapping into the power of others, often by providing an opportunity for others to share their expertise and ideas. By soliciting success stories and examples of mistakes made and lessons learned, or even just commenting on the videos found on the TED.Org site, ( not only taps into the power of story, but provides a foundation for your critical analyses and observations. Personal branding sense demands efficient content creation The above are just a few of the ways you can save time while building your personal brand with helpful and relevant content. Theres no time to waste! If you want to succeed in the Web 2.0 world, you must establish your personal brand, and personal brands dependent content. Your ability to build your personal brand is, ultimately, tied to your ability to save time creating content. Do you agree? Whats your favorite time-saving technique?
